Fastelavn is the danish carnival. kids dress up and go door to door and sing this song!

It is basically the same as trick or treat.

Rolls is what I want

The kids will carry around little cans with a coin slots for people to put in money or sometimes they will get lucky and get a fastelavnsbolle ( a pastry/sweet roll). OR unlucky, like my friend Karina and I was one year and have a guy pull 2 hardy whole wheat rolls straight out of his freezer and hand to us with a satisfied look on his face. I'm sure our faces were quite fascinating to look at once we realized what just happened.

For the fastelavn party we take turns hitting a barrel with candy and oranges the person who knocks out the bottom is the Cat queen and the person who knocks the final piece down is the Cat king. Here is a random video to illustrate how this goes down.

This group clearly had a toddler barrel, They make them in different grades of toughness and adults get into it just as much as the kids. I've seen several fastelawn bats splintered before the barrel came down.

This is the main reason why I have a hard time getting used to how weak pinatas are.

These pictures are from our ward Halloween party and this cat is my excellent sister Maja.

Tomorrow we are going to celebrate fastelavn with our local danish family, Kasper and Lindsay.

Since we are related by marriage, he is my brothers wife's cousin!, we are going to attempt our own fastelavn fest tomorrow!

I'm so excited!

Nothing by the 19th bear

This be by one of my most noble relatives the Troels!

While most teenagers went and bought the latest CD he saved up his money and bought strange instruments that I had never heard of or seen before. Walking into his room was a little like entering the lab of a mad musical scientist....and fun!

Sadly this is the only YouTube video there is, not super high quality, but hey, guitar hero!

So here are a few more of the pictures of my visit back home in the Mother land!

The super cute baby is "Troels, the next generation" better known as Bloeb.

Bloeb is with his very happy Farmor and uncle Kasper. Then we have 4 pairs of pants with people inside them all looking at a picture. the visible people are Troels and Thomas.

I never realized how loud i am with my kids until I got to see Gabriel and his parents interact, they are so tender and mild and QUIET and then the Crazy me comes along and scares him half to death every time I open my loud mouth.

Troels. When we were kids we used to play, then we got old enough where I was a girl and he was a boy and it did make a difference. Then we became teens and,Troels and Michael were since the day Troels was born and are still the best of friends, and, we had a million insane adventures. Festiveness and just fun. Home made horror movies anyone?

I finally got to know Kasper. He is great of course!

Clara! I finally got to meet and know my grand kusine!

We had fun together.

She is Ian's age and since I missed my own kids terribly I had all kinds of attention to give her.

Troels and his fantastic wife. She's the best and her name is Anna! I like that name you know.

Of course she is the best. Troels picked her!

And this is why they call him bloeb.

Musicalistickal me!.....Updated

My sister in law, Dana, just opened my eyes to this fun toy!

I was actually thinking earlier today that I really wanted to find a program to compose music in and even though this one can't do hardly any of the stuff I would want it to do -like many of the notes I wanted to use- it is simple and fun and has given me courage to get into something more complicated.

Since we have so many musically talented people in my family i have felt for a long time that even though I have no training in reading sheet music and no particular gift for learning instruments, I still had inherited a nag for composing. I just did not have a way record anything. It mostly stayed in my head and even when I did sing tunes I came up with I could never remember them later.

So please enjoy my little tune, it is nothing fancy and it is very short and could use allot more work but it is all mine.

I do think that it cycles through well, and there are parts of it that I really like the majority though just makes me want to sit and spend hours on it until it get it "right"

OK so it was just to tempting to not mess with it some more, check out the latest version, still needs a lot of work on the second half. I just could not help wanting to tweak the first one and then i added more to it and now that needs lots of tweaking as well especially since I have still not added very many layers to that section yet.
