Bitter Sweet

My Old washer. We bought it used along with the dryer when we moved in to this house. that is 5.5 years ago.
It was quite old then, but I was happy to have something that worked.
The washer and dryer has both had issues for years but the clothes got clean and dry even though they sometimes did end up with some rust stains.

Then the dryer finally gave in. the dial stopped moving and the heat stopped working. We put the dryer on the curb with a free does not heat sign on it and posted it on craigslist.
It was gone the next day. Then we started shopping around for the cheapest washer and dryer we could possibly find. We felt overwhelmed and frustrated with our lack of funds. After a while we were almost ready to get the cheap ones from Lowe's but I was not happy about it. The cheapest from home depot were so cheap looking that we worried the handle would fall of or break after a few months and they could not fit a whole lot of clothes. I do at least 3 loads every day so it makes a big difference to me.

Finally someone said "craigslist" and I have no clue why we did not look there right away but Jed found this set of nice Kenmore washer and dryer for really cheap that had just been listed. We got really lucky. The wife accidentally put down the price they offered it for to his sister and not the price they planned to actually post it for, They were moving out of state to a house that already had a washer so they planned on getting a new dryer to match once they got there. Since we were the first to respond we got them! We did have to wait a few days so they could finish all the rest of their laundry before they closed the moving truck.
So pretty! I was in heaven!
one is 5 years old and one is 3 but they are nice enough that if something goes wrong I think it will be worth it to fix them. When the time come we'll have to see. Here are some very mixed reviews.  if we had ended up with the bottom of the line ones then that would not have been the case and the life expectancy would have been allot shorter.
So we spend less money total that we otherwise would have. We got something much nicer both to look at and especially to use. We could never have afforded these new.
For a little more than a week we dried our clothes like this. On top of it all the AC in the car had just dies so we drove all summer with the windows down and melting. Then while we were drying our clothes like this the AC unit in the house died. Even though it was sweltering in the house the clothes dried slower. One of the wonderful things the AC does is take some of the humidity out of the Nasty hot Texas air and since that had stopped the air was so wet that the clothes dried super slow. All so much fun. This was one of the times that it was nice that we were renters because our landlord send someone out to fix the AC the very next day. Yepiii!
James got to help Jed pick up the washer and Drier and that washer was stinking heavy, so he was pooped.
He got to do quite a bit of hard work when he first got here. They also did allot of heavy labor helping 2 families move.
He managed to have a good attitude though so that just tells me how awesome he is.
Jed un-installing the old washer so we can get the new one in.
I just love my handy man.
In the middle of the crasyness he realised that the plug in the new washer did not match the outlet so he had to go get a kit and change the plug.
Thank you Jed for being so multi tasking talented and super strong!
